Gramma's Apple Bread Pudding Recipe
Bread, raisins and apples are baked with eggs and cinnamon, then topped with a sweet, warm vanilla sauce in this comforting dish.
Made with apples soaked in honey and clove, this bread pudding is not only quick and easy to prepare, but full of warm, delicious flavor.
Wonderful recipe....the use of a water bath is greatly helpful, by the way. For the vanilla sauce, there is a quick, quick method I can suggest. (This was a trick done by the Mark Hopkins Hotel in San Francisco): Buy the best quality vanilla ice cream (made with vanilla bean), and allow the desired amount to melt at room temp. It makes an excellent sauce!
Fantastic recipe, very easy and tasty. The vanilla sauce was a bit too greasy so I think next time I'll just use vanilla ice cream as suggested by another reviewer. Thanks for the recipe!
This turned out wonderful..I added more apples than the recipe called for...didn't make the glaze...they ate it without..and loved it!!
While this recipe was great and smelled and tasted so good... I had some problems making it. I can't believe no one else mentioned the milk curdling! I happened when I made the pudding and the sauce. It was fine until it boiled then I had to strain out all the chunks. I did not care for the sauce at all because it was more of a liquid than a sauce. It never thickened at all, but I don't think it was needed as this was really sweet to begin with.
I doubled everything except the brown sugar. I added pumpkin pie spice with the cinnamon. I left out the raisins and used a loaf or Pepridge farm cinnamon bread. I always let the bread sit for 10 minutes to soak up the milk before putting it in the dish. I used a 9x13 and it fit perfectly. I always cook my bread pudding on 300 degrees, this one took 90 minutes. The sauce seperated but still tasted good, just unactractive. I'll find a different sauce for the next time.
Great recipe! I substituted half & half for the milk, and omitted the raisins. It was rich & delicious!
